Kayla's gift

I would love to introduce my cousin Kayla. or who the Julia likes to call the girl with the golden hair! :) (wouldn't that be an awesome nickname to have) Miss Kayla is a great person and shes crazy about her cousin Belle.Well honestly any baby she's around she has to play with them, hold them, feed them. She is going to be the perfect babysitter, possibly teacher and someday far from now a great mom!
Miss Kayla was over my house one day before my trip to Africa and we were talking about the kids I would meet there. She said she wanted to help me make something to give to a little girl. now come on isn't she awesome!! such a big heart and beautiful person.
we decided to make dolls out of scrapes of fabric i had sitting around. she worked on the sewing machine, drew the faces on, added hair and little touches to make each one unique.
I couldn't wait to get these pictures back to her. to show her. I was to proud of my cousin for putting another person before herself and taking time out of her day to create something i know this little girl will treasure!

I hope someday (if her mom says yes) Kayla will get to visit Africa with me and meet all the little babies! But then again I'm not so sure she would come home after playing, holding, and feeding the little ones.

Glasses

When making an eye glass case I thought it would be fun to add something cute I then sewed fleece material to the inside for extra cushion for the every expensive glasses

next i folded it in half and joined together three sides
When I got the letter from her school suggesting we take her to a vision doctor my heart sank a little. no parent wants to hear that something could be wrong with their child even if it's just something small like she needs glasses. I worried about her eyes and also her self esteem, would kids make fun of her and call her four eyes? would she feel ugly or geeky when she wears them. Then the other part of me was preparing for the fight at the store when she would argue over getting the thick rainbow rimed glasses. (her favorite color) But much to my surprise and delight she picked out a very nice light purple/silver pair put them on like a pro and said
"mommy, i look smart!"
Yes you do baby!

family tree

I love to paint, but I don't do it as much as I would like. mainly because of the amount of time needed to put into a painting. Time is not usually on my side seeing how it's hard to get three babies to nap at the same time and housework and picking up Julia from school and trying to squeeze in time with the husband before he leave for work and cooking dinner and taking the dog outside and scheduling picture appointments, and editing picures OH YEAH I still need a shower! so you see painting is rare for me. but one day I found an hour of free time to whip up a family tree painting!

i made big leaves to represent the family members.
them filled in tiny leaves.
This family tree is biased off of my mom's side of the family. It started with Grandma and grandpa then their 6 kids and then the 15 grand-kids and now the four great grand-kids! I don't know what i am going to do with the painting yet but i like how it turned out.

steps of life

You know that scene in Father of the bride when Steve martins character remembers all the stages of his daughter's life on the staircase? when she was little riding down the banister all the way up to her walking down in her weeding dress? I love that movie! one of those I have to stop what I am doing and watch it if its on.

one of the many things I LOVE about our new house is the fact that we want our kids to grow up here. I can already picture the girls running down the steps on Christmas morning or stomping up them when we say "you are not going to that party!" :) These stairs already have a lot of memories built into them, we are only going to add on to that.

My husband bought Miss Belle her first pair of shoes last weekend. he thinks it will finally get her to start walking if she had something on her feet. that still has not happened but I'm OK with it. I am savoring every minute of those little arms reaching up to me to carry her. She has however started climbing the steps! (90% of the time the baby gate is up) I quickly grabbed my camera and got on the floor. This has become my new favorite picture of her.
can you see her face? no
is she smiling? no shes probably sticking out her tongue because you know you can concentrate better with your tongue out.
will any of my family carry this picture around to show off? no
is this the kind of memory I want to think about when i see her walking down these same steps in her wedding dress? yes!
